Medicinal products should be disposed of according to their expiry date - their shelf life can sometimes be quite short, meaning that you have to buy a replacement if and when the ailment reappears.

This can be frustrating when there is so much of the product left, and probably makes you feel as if you are wasting your money.

Regarding Herstat, as long as the product is not past its expiry date (located on the end of each tube), which is usually several years into the future, you can continue to use our ointment until there's nothing left.

How is this possible? One of the ingredients in our cream is propolis – a 100% natural antioxidant and antimicrobial substance made by bees using plant resins.

We use propolis as a preservative for our ointment, to keep the product sterile throughout multiple uses. This means that the product does not need chemicals such as parabens, and you needn't waste the product by throwing away an unfinished tube.

The main ingredient in our cream is white soft paraffin (or petrolatum) that, acting as a barrier, provides an environment favourable for faster healing and to the easing of pain, dry skin, redness, and swelling, but propolis may provide additional benefits.

It has in fact been used by human beings since at least 300BC for medicinal purposes. Not only is it an antimicrobial substance, but it is also known to possess anaesthetic and wound healing properties.
